I read your True Crime Addict book and afterwards I was utterly convinced that your theory of her escaping to Canada was true. But I just heard that you don’t believe that anymore?
I am totally new this case but feel certain Maura Murray was in dire need of professional psychiatric help, counselling and support -Clearly she was caught up in a cycle of self destructive behavior, she had come undone at Westpoint, her promising military training and career in tatters, as a chemical engineer….
It is obvious that her back up plan of pursing Nursing degree was not going to plan and she was ready and in the act of bailing out again…….when she disappeared
Being honest I really hope she got the help she needed , AA/NA and got her life back on track.
I’ve enjoyed your books, Mr. Renner. Those recently found human bones–even if they don’t turn out to be Maura Murray–suggest a scenario not unlike the movie, Psycho, in which a woman fleeing from something she regrets winds up being murdered under unrelated circumstances. Her background and what leads her to the Bates Motel are complete red herrings with respect to her murder. Perhaps Maura’s problems prior to her disappearance have nothing to do with what happened that night, other than to put her in the wrong place at the wrong time.
That’s very possible. She may have started out on the run from her life and its troubles, but ended-up in a real life horror story that she could not evade. Sometimes in life, the problems we think are too much to handle are the least of our troubles when we attempt to escape them. I still don’t think it’s impossible to assume she either took her own life. However, someone may have kidnapped her, or she died from exposure. I’m not one for believing in Bigfoot, but I do believe in evil ppl and the most logical answer(s) to her disappearance.
