Just let you know that the girl we have seen here in QC look like the pictures of Maura Murray but older of course! She looks like around 34… Like I said in another email. It’s someone who looks like the girl but older. That’s it. And I do not look for something back or visibility or anything like that. I don’t care about that. I just wanted to do my citizen job. And the girl we saw her dit not have at all the look of your [strange picture woman]… NO link. The girl here was muchhhhhh look like the picture but older. Just that.
Good luck. If I see her, I’ll talk to her. You know, in QC city, in town where we live, I know a LOT of people, so I can say she’s not from here. And it is not a BIG city in that neiberhood. Anyway. 🙂 We do not have cameras here… it is a little shop and very convivial place. I Know almost all of my clientele.
Bye bye. 🙂
More on that Quebec City sighting.
Here’s a little more from the nice woman who believes she saw Maura in her record store last week:

James,
Thanks for sharing this. Seems like a great leed. I feel awfully hopeful after hearing what this woman has said.
I would hope that if this woman comes back to the store that she would buy something – with a credit or debit card – so that we might know a name…
James why has my comment been removed?have I got it wrong about what pic was used?
Have you ever told someone they looked 34? That seems kind of odd? You would round up to 35 or down to 30, correct?
No. I've done it. You're point?
I see your point TM, but in my experience that is not too uncommon. For me anyway, if guessing an age, I might say early thirties or mid thirties. But if I had to guess an age, I don't round to nearest five and I have never heard that. Reflecting on how my own brain processes and deliberates on an age guess, I seem to start with the neighborhood – early thirties, mid thirties, late thirties – then settle on a number, which in that context is like settling on one of three or four values. Moreover, if someone were planting this as a false ID, which – intended or not – your message slightly suggests you may think, and if so prone to exaggerated detail in creating a false lead, they would say something like, "she look 30 years and 7 months old to me."

John nailed my point. Maybe it's not so odd afterall, it seemed odd to me at first to be that specific on her age. If pressed for a age I suppose one would guess a specific year opposed to rounding up or down.
John, what's your background? You're a good writer.
We'll with MM history of CC fraud and now possibly Identity theft, how could they know for sure who it is? She would probably be using an alias. It almost seems as if she's become a professional crook.
Very well put JG I wish I had the talent to
Put thoughts to paper in that way. With that said, I am not convinced it is not her. I think there is more to come on this one.
No names, please.
Well thank you TM. I am formerly an attorney and management consultant. I am now a singer-songwriter, although not the kind that makes any money.
JWB, thank you also. I can't disagree with people convinced it is or is not her. But some stuff I found last night leans me toward no.
James, I understand why you took it down. I held back from sending it to ________ on FB.
MrsForman it could be possible someone stole Maura's identity seeing as how she has been missing for approximately 9 years now. There was a case of a boy who went missing in California back in 1984 and someone tried to obtain a passport in his name using his SSN back in 2005.

Does Maura's cousin know "true" story of disappearance?
Remember Barb and Patricia Curran? It was their high school pictures I discovered in an adult magazine outside Fred Murray's house in Weymouth. Barb (McDougall) and Patti (Davidson) are Maura's cousins and they spoke to Nancy Grace about the disappearance in 2006. They both still live in the Weymouth area and maintain contact with Helena Dwyer who runs the Maura Murray website and the Maura Murray Facebook page.
After I posted the report about the tip that links Maura to Toronto, a reader sent me an email which included, as an attachment, a report given to Lt. Scarinza of the NH State Police in 2009. The report was written by a CPA named James Leone. Leone knows computers. He understands how to track an IP address. He was contacted by the moderator of a forum devoted to finding what happened to Maura Murray. Someone had posted the supposed "true" story of what happened to Maura. Here's the post:
Maura Murray is NOT a Missing Person
Maura Murray has the right as every independent adult does to leave with her new boyfriend and start a new life. Maura is living a content and satisfying life in the Province of Quebec."
This is starting to look more interesting.
I'm curious to know how they can say that makes her "not a missing person"? If she ran away she is in fact a missing person, she's an alive person and not a homicide case, which from what I've read, the PD has never thought she was. I have all ideas she's alove and well somewhere in Canada there have been entirely too many unrelated people coming fourth with sightings. I seen on another topix post where someone said that she left with a new man and he was a hunk. No idea who posted it but it seems as of her leaving Billy just wasn't an option for her. I've also wandered if maybe MM was having relations with someone her family wouldn't approve of (different race, different nationality, same sex)? They're right, MM does have the right to run off with a new man or alone. BUT, when she commits the crime of faking her death, stealing CCs and possibly even SSNs, and being on the "run" for 10 years costing tax payers millions of dollars she's not a "runaway" she's a criminal. If she intended to run off all she had to do was pack and leave, she didn't have to take such drastic measures. If the above is in fact true and she's alive and well then she needs to find a pay phone and call the PD and simply say " this is MM, I'm alive and well, please stop looking for me I dot wish to be found" that's all it would take….. I do believe she's alive and I still believe someone knows something including the family. This entire case is wack-a-doodle and I hope JR doesn't get discouraged from continuing his search.
I agree. BUT, if JR notified the PD about the SSN linking them and the cops truely investigated then wouldn't they have asked her how she became linked to MMs SSN? That would make the other person a criminal that should be investigated.
It is healthy for a forum like this to share your thoughts as they strike you. People's opinions influence one other's over time. Thus the value of the contribution does not depend on its rightness or wrongness, but instead the sincerity in offering it and in considering others' points of view in relation to it. On that measure it was a good contribution. By contrast, in other online forums I have had the displeasure of getting tangled up in, hostility about being "right" averted any chance at meaningful conversation. So, I appreciate your approach and your contributions, and I too try also to readily concede when another's point has advanced my thinking, which very often happens in these discussions.

This "ring of truth" email, as some used to call it, and the confirming citygirl post, and the info James ran down about citygirl, is one of the most interesting things that have happened on this case. It was always thought that Citygirl was a particular cousin of Maura's (or possible first cousin once removed; i.e., the child of a cousin.) (I am avoiding saying her name, although many many people know it, because I am not sure whether James intends to erect a general rule about names.) Over time, I came to learn where this cousin and first cousin live, although I have never told anyone where that is (who did not already know; i.e., James). Oddly enough, however, it turns out that Maura has YET another relative living on the same street, who is someone I did not know about, despite having a very detailed family tree of the Murrays going back to 1872. I am pretty dead on sure that I know who all of Fred's siblings are. And from what I can tell, this woman would HAVE TO BE one of his siblings, and NOT an in law. (Not certain on that, but pretty sure). So there is a wrinkle in the family that escaped about four months of work that I and another well known poster put into figuring out the Murray family tree, using entirely publicly available data sources. The other wrinkle is the ambiguity as to whether the daughter (i.e., the first cousin once removed exists or not). There are records out there about her, but it is confusing. Anyway, this new person, who is about Fred's age, lives in the same place where that confirmation to the ring truth email came from. In any case, the aforementioned post and ring of truth email are – I think – important elements in this case, although for all I know they could reflect an attempt to throw the trail down a blind alley.
Is as curious about a family tree, just as a reference point. I can't place my finger on it but this entire family seems to be up to some shady shit. I just hope JR finds the answer, alive or dead, so that everyone's curiosity can be out to rest.
I know that a lot of people think that Maura died that day. I just find it so hard to believe that ANY leads would be coming up 10 years later…They very well could be people's extreme hope to grasp at the tiniest of possibilties..but sometimes having hope is the best thing to get things done.
I agree this could seem as if she's a ur a way and do a complete 180 where her body is found tomorrow. But, if the police are treating it as a criminal investigation, I'd really like to know what info they are concealing. If LE thought she were deceased wouldn't it be a homicide investigation?
A run away*
James, did you hear anything about her time at West Point and if there had been anything besides make up stolen? All the talk about SSNs lately made me wonder if she had access to other peoples' dog tags, paperwork, or military IDs. I was in the Army at the same time she was at West Point and your complete SSN is all over everything. I wonder if she could possibly have used another's SSN/name to avoid hits on her own.
Been reading this blog for a while now, but this will be my first post. I heard someone previously state that all Maura has to to do is contact police and say that she is alive and well and wishes to not be found. Ever wonder if that call has already been made? Hence the reason why anything that seems to be close to scratching the surface here and/or solving the mystery gets squandered right away, by those that seem close to her and by LE? There's also a few things that I never see discussed here. Now I'm a little late to the party so excuse me if they have, but a) it says on wikipedia that mapquest directions were found in her car….and b) has it ever been looked into if she was possibly on a dating site? Match.com, americansingles.com, eharmony, etc. Just a few sites that were doing well in 2003/2004. I truly believe this girl to be alive and where most people who thinks she's alive thinks she is and that's north of the border. I believe this girl rode in tandem, perhaps someone else in the car as well as someone else trailing behind. I believe this girl was picked up very shortly after the accident and continued on to that nights destination. I also believe this person to possibly be someone she may have met online, hence the need for mapquest directions….and the secrecy of where her destination was, and a phone that would not be traced. I think the truth about her has already come out in the not explaining her whereabouts awhile back….she may be a fugitive, however I don't see LE trekking up to Canada for misdemeanors.
I also have another question, what's the ex boyfriend up to these days? Did he move on? Married? Kids? etc? I'm more just curious than anything else. I think he's irrelevant to it all
Does the ex boyfriend not live in Canada?
I'm not sure, I'm just curious how his life has turned out since
I do think though that if James finds her, he should go after Frank Morris and the Anglin brothers next 🙂
Good question! Does anyone know?
Beautifully and thoughtfully stated, John! This should be copied and pasted onto the top of every Comments section! 🙂
Typically, it seems that hostility shown toward another person's posting only makes that person become defensive or causes that person to shy-away from ever commenting again, even if he/she has great thoughts in the future!
I'm assuming people are referring to Billy Rausch. He appears to be doing well and moved on with his life. He's had a successful career. He's on linkedin.
Allison, I once met with Maura's UMASS coach. She told me that the Army coach had told her drinking was the issue. The last straw was an off campus party that a parent had rented a room for and provided the booze. Maura did something especially troublesome and was asked to leave. For a tim, she was put into some kind of program to help her, at West Point.
Thank you "83."
Hey JG Moron you were slammed and you dont even know it cause it was deleted. I stood up for you and you slammed me? Wow what an idiot you are. And who wants attention? I think it is you
A group of intelligent people who have followed this case for years convinced themselves that they had found Maura. I never would have thought that something like that could happen. My faith in identifications has gone from weak to virtually nonexistent.

That was posted by sdam and I took at as a slam against you renner and the rest of us that care
Hey John Green- You call me an attention seeker MMM look in the mirror Stuart smalley. Dude you are wrong and stuck on your self so get over you..
Exactly. I want so bad to comment here more, interact, and join in on discussions; however, the John Green "it's my way because I can string together pretty adjectives debate show" totally ruins my experience. I know James won't forbid Green from posting, but he should at least consider that Green is hurting the blog more than he helps. That's my two cents. It ain't much. Don't spend it all in one spot.:)
jwb,
I try to get on here at least every other day to try to stay up to date with the case. I tried to catch up on what I missed recently and came across this you posted

I only ask this out trying to maintain some semblance of unity among us all here, but where may I ask did you encounter JG slamming you? I looked over the posts and unless I missed one (which is definitely a possibility) I didn't see anyone talking down to you. Could you have possibly misinterpreted something the wrong way? Peace to everybody here….
Thanks John, interesting. I wonder if it was the ADATSA program where they offer counseling and etc or the Army's 28 day program? One of my friends was forced in to the 28-day program and was told if he was caught drinking again that they force him out of the Army.
I can't remember where I got the makeup theft from, is that what Maura's brother-in-law told James?
Hi Allison.
As for the make up thing, I believe that originated with Helena.
As for the the programmatic response of WP to Maura's problems there, somebody who I verified as a West Point grad once contacted me about this. She explained the WP makes strong efforts to help cadets who run into problems with drinking and mentioned that program. Based on some of what this person told me, I did some research into incidents involving drinking related incidents among cadets. There have a been a few high profile cases over the years and the general impression I came away with was that to actually be asked to leave you really have to screw up pretty badily more than once.
In my conversation with Maura's coach, I had wanted to ask if she knew whose parent had funded the party and gotten the hotel room. I can't say for sure that this is accurate, but I felt not permitted to ask that question when it came to my lips and chose not to. In other words, I had the feeling that she did not want me to ask that. Just a feeling I had and a decision I made (I'm not a journalist and it was a random, unanticipated encounter), but my intuition went to obvious places.
One last interesting tidbit, although I can't remember who told me this. But somebody close to WP that I talked to told me that when Maura was in that program, her upper classman supervisor was …. BILLY. I will look back over my notes to see if I can track down who told me that. It was a credible person, but I don't remember who and I am not willing to say now that that is more than just a rumor.

JWB I never called you an attention seeker. I called Sam that. By the same token, I have lost interest in interacting with you as this is not even close to the first time you have done this.
Appreciate you adding this fromanotherstar … he appears to have focused on a phrase I wrote in a message supporting his comments about bad information/opinion on another blog as being directed toward him.
Guys lets all settle down. The main focus is finding if Maura is dead or alive – put your egos aside.
Mr. Green,
You're welcome. The courtesy that you show people in your responses is quite evident and when I re-read the posts I didn't find anything offensive at all. I have a feeling he may have read over a response too quickly that was actually directed at someone else, it happens.
as many West Pointers do, the ex got out of the Army as soon as he could (after the taxpayers paid his way to college) and in 2008 was in the media in Ohio mustering support for Obama as a democratic party operative, using his military background as credentials as Obama was generally considered to be disliked by military members (as a longtime Army guy that is true). Not sure what he is doing now. Maybe he got a govt job after Obama won.
I'm with you, Hans. I was relieved thinking that JG was no longer participating, but now that he's back I feel I have to be extremely cautious commenting.
I found your this post while searching for information about blog-related research … It's a good post .. keep posting and updating information. Quebec City
