Bill Rausch appeared in DC Superior Court this morning, remotely, for a hearing in his felony sex abuse case. Before Judge Brandt appeared, Rausch’s attorney spoke with the prosecutor in the courtroom to see what was being offered for a plea deal.
There is no plea deal currently on the table, according to the prosecutor. And the victim, she said, wants accountability after waiting 11 years for justice in this case.
Bill’s attorney wanted to know if the state would consider a simple assault misdemeanor and diversion for Rausch as a possible deal. The prosecutor raised the possibility of a misdemeanor sex assault charge.
When Judge Brandt appeared, a date was set for an interim status hearing for July 19. And a trial date was set for May 9, 2023 – which would be four years since Rausch’s indictment and 12 years since the alleged attempted rape.
Why the wait— and we want the trial to see if he is questioned about the Maura alllegations. He seems to be privileged for some reason.
This guy thinks he can just do whatever he wants to whomever he wants, and get away with it. I for one hope he’s prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I feel so bad for the victim – what is taking so long. He definitely doesn’t want a trial because then he will be asked questions about Maura..I’ll bet he wants to avoid that at all costs.
